Welcome to Middle School
Welcome to the Middle School Division of GPS. Middle school represents two important transitions. First, students have been provided a strong foundation of coursework throughout the elementary school years. This foundation provides the tools necessary for each student to reach his or her individual academic potential. Our goal is to meet the individual needs of every student as they make the transition to middle school. It is both exciting and frustrating as students leave behind the elementary school setting of the single class and teacher classroom. Students have more than one teacher and travel to different classrooms for instruction in middle school. Every effort is made to provide our students a program of academic excellence in an environment that is supportive and caring as they make the transition from elementary to middle school.
The second transition occurs throughout the three years of middle school. Emphasis is placed on preparing students for success in the Upper School and then on to college. The areas of focus for all students relate to the following:
· Emotional
· Social
· Intellectual
· Character Education
Students begin experience changes in the way they think and feel about themselves and their peers. They are learning to “think outside the box”, as they develop a more abstract thought process. College preparation starts in middle school.
The faculty at GPS is caring, nurturing, and dedicated to meeting the unique needs
of the Middle School student. Teachers are committed to excellence and improvement
and have high expectations of the students. Our goal is to develop good work habits
and foster a life-
